Stayed 10/8-10/10. Chose campsite 23. Decent walking distance to bathroom and very shaded due to canopy of trees. Close fresh water accessibility (within 20 feet). Very friendly host! Quiet and peaceful. Great restrooms with hot showers. Almost zero ground fall tinder so be prepared to bring fire start and plenty of firewood. Fire ring, lantern hook, and picnic table provided. Picnic table was warped but otherwise very adequate. There is an Ace Hardware and a chain grocery approximately 8-10 minutes away. Definitely will return!
In my experience, when people demand respect, it’s because they have yet to earn it. The number one rule on the rules posted in the restrooms is to respect the camp host. We can all agree that that should be a given.
There’s usually a reason a rule has been instituted, my guess is that campers have complained and were treated badly and an argument ensued. Pure speculation on my part…
There are two stalls in the women’s restroom. The doorstop on one of them is installed backward so it can’t be latched. This is an easy fix. It also means the tp in the stall with the working door is used up quickly and goes unnoticed for an entire day by the host.
We noticed a bag of trash on a nearby campsite with no campers the entire time we were there.
There is no beach access, which is a shame because there’s not much else to do.
I hiked the big looped trail that winds through the forest, if it weren’t for All Trails, I would have gotten lost. There are colored dots of some of the trees but it still confusing.
When we arrived, we did not find our name on the site we reserved. We asked the host, and learned they stack the reservations and the previous card had not been removed. Good thing we asked though because the posts with the numbers were a bit confusing. Our neighbor even asked if he was in the correct spot.
This place could be a lot better.
We had reservations so just found our site and backed in. The site was quite level and private with shrubbery between campsites. Camp Host was friendly and answered questions. The picnic table has been rotting a while so it could do with a replacement. One dump and fresh water fill. A short drive to shopping and restaurants. The bathroom facilities were fine. You’re out in the woods, not a hotel, there’s gonna be bugs. There’s a place to put your towel, hooks and bench.
This could be a really nice campground.
The showers only have one temp. It's the cold side but the water is hot. There is never any soap in the bathhouse so take your own hand soap when you go use the bathroom.
I really like the size of the campsites. Most of them are shaded. They have a nice hiking trail.
The access to the recreation area is closed. I think it has been for a while. If they would open that back up, it would rate an extra star. Since it's not open we have to try to find other places to go swim and fish.
Flanners beach campground was really great. Sites are gravel and grass and have enough room. Most sites are wooded except a few tent sites which are mostly grass. Quiet during the week and a little more people on the weekends. Unfortunately the water access to the neuse river has still not been restored for almost five years. Nice area over by the water with grills, tables, and restrooms.
Campground host was super nice and she was very helpful. Would definitely stay there again. Very affordable too. Can pay onsite or ahead online.
This was a nice and quiet campground! The RV spots are spacious with a lot of shade and foliage. Bathhouse was mostly clean and convenient. Only con was maintenance staff mowing grass by our campsite while we were trying to cook on our grill. Make sure you don't park on the grass either!
Would have been great if the beach access was open. The campground is a little run down. Hosts were very friendly. There are plans to open the second bathroom and work on restoring Beach access in the next year or so.
So this happened about 1 years ago-
So me and my family were camping here and this was the last day we we’re going to be there.
It was about 12 am and I heard driving outside. I didn’t think to much of it. Then around 1 am I heard knocking. On. Our. Door.
I didn’t answer it.
I was terrified.
Also we couldn’t go on the beach.
Garbage.
